Fileserver Configuration

1. Install Windows '98 (or NT)

Follow the Typical Windows installation procedure, incorporating the guidelines in the following paragraphs for naming and configuring.  Be sure you have long file names enabled, and your CD-ROM is capable of reading long file names.

2. Naming The Fileserver

FileserverNetwork

Network Identification for Fileserver (Workstations are the same, except their Computer

names are WORKSTATION1, WORKSTATION2, WORKSTATION3, etc.)

The Main computer, which will process the calls and store the data files should be name "Fileserver".  It will be referred to as "Fileserver" throughout this document.  The WorkGroup for all computers in the system should be designated "ComQuest".

3. Identification

The User Name for each computer should be ComQuest. Also, the password for each computer should be ComQuest.

4. Windows Configuration

Right click on Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop, and select Properties from the pop-up menu.  The Fileserver should be configured as a Client for Microsoft Networks.  Enable File and Printer Sharing for this computer.  Access should be Share-level Access (rather than User-Level).  On the Configuration tab in Network Neighborhood properties, Primary Network Logon should be set to Windows Logon.

5. Hardware

Install all necessary hardware in the Fileserver, including Rhetorex 432 Interactive Voice Response card (IVR card), modem for use with pcAnywhere, SoundBlaster-compatible sound card, CD-ROM, printer, network card, video card, mouse, keyboard, etc.  Make sure Windows is operating properly (without any errors or exclamation marks in Control Panel/System/Device Manager), before proceeding with installation.

6. CD-ROM Drive

For purposes of these installation instructions, we will refer to the drive of your CD-ROM as "D:\".  If it is something other than D:\, (such as "E:", "F:", etc.), please replace the D:\ reference in the instructions with the correct letter that refers to your CD-ROM.

STEP #7 IS FOR WINDOWS '98 ONLY!

7. Change Registry Entry

Before installing interactive components, you have to make a change to the Fileserver's Registry.  Click on the Windows' Start button in the lower left corner of your desktop.  Select "Run" from the menu, and type: REGEDIT as the filename.  (Press Enter or click OK).  Go to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT section of the registry, click on the + symbol to expand the list and look for this item:

CLSID\{BDC67890-4FC0-11D0-A805-00AA006D2EA4}

Click on Installed Version sub-folder on the left, then double-click on the (Default) entry on the right side of the screen.  Click on the end of entry and backspace once to change the last character from a 9 to an 8.

(you're changing the last digit from a 9 to an 8).  Click Ok to Save.  This is done to "fool" the installation program into thinking DCOM has already been installed.  This is a nuance between the old Windows '95 protocol and the installation program, and the newer Windows '98 operating system.  (Later, after installing the interactive components, we will be changing this same entry back to 4,71,0,1719.)
